Laura Barnard founded BREAKTHRU with a no-limits mindset. As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, Barnard is passionate about aligning with other purpose-driven leaders and organizations to help end prejudice, eliminate discriminatory obstacles, and advance equity.
Her journey began in the halls of Harvard, where the study of psychology and leadership shaped a foundational understanding of what it means to bring out the best in oneself and others. However, stepping into the corporate world revealed the stark realities and limitations placed on leaders who deviate from the traditional mold. Despite achieving success, Barnard faced the constraints of being boxed in.
The pivotal moments came when leadership aspirations were met with assertions of not fitting the stereotypical CEO mold, accompanied by experiences of misogyny and a glaring lack of inclusivity at the top echelons of corporate America. These experiences, coupled with the realization of systemic biases and the glass ceiling effect, catalyzed a bold decision to step away from the corporate ladder. The vision was clear: to leverage a wealth of experience and a passion for empowerment to change the face of leadership.
BREAKTHRU Brands was born out of a desire to build Leadership Brands that provide underrepresented leaders with a voice and a platform. Through the creation of a groundbreaking book, Leadership Types, and the establishment of BREAKTHRU Brands, Barnard aims to elevate authentic leadership, empower individuals to rise within their organizations, and ultimately make the world a more equitable place. Barnard is calling for leaders everywhere to embrace their authenticity, challenge the status quo, and lead with impact.
