With nearly a decade of college coaching experience, Ashlee Phillips is transforming women’s basketball through her expertise and empathetic approach. As a former multi-sport collegiate athlete and self-described ‘survivor,’ Phillips demonstrates an unwavering commitment to helping young women enhance their performance on the court and enrich their lives beyond it.
Currently an Assistant Coach at Auburn University at Montgomery, Phillips was instrumental in leading the Division II women’s basketball team to their first winning season in nearly a decade during the 2023-2024 season. Known for her strategic prowess, Phillips is skilled at scouting opponents and devising effective game plans.
Phillips is a relational leader, adept at creating team environments that propel young women to succeed. As an advocate for holistic athlete development, she embraces diverse interests and respects unique identities. Phillips holds that honesty and empathy are crucial in forging true connections and fostering self-reliance among her players.
Having previously held roles at Post University and the University of Bridgeport, Phillips has extensive experience guiding NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball programs across the Northeast as an Assistant Coach and Community Director. Her coaching career commenced at MacMurray College in Illinois, where she swiftly ascended to Interim Head Coach after just one season as Assistant Coach for the Division III program.
As a member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, Phillips actively supports their mission to expand the sport. On the court, she views women’s basketball as a platform for female athletes to break down stereotypes and showcase their innate talent and dedication. Off the court, she sees it as a valuable opportunity for women to grow into the individuals they aspire to be.
Phillips’s own development journey began at Concordia University Irvine, where she earned a Master’s in Coaching and Athletics Administration, and Belhaven University, where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree and was twice honored with the athletic conference’s Character of Champion Award as a track and field star. Her background, including her beginnings as an athlete at Brewton-Parker College, deeply informs her leadership philosophy.
More than just a coach, Ashlee Phillips is a passionate advocate for women in sports, driven to advance the future of women’s basketball and positively influence the lives it touches. With an eager approach to the challenges and opportunities ahead, she is dedicated to reshaping the game both on and beyond the sidelines.
