Cindy Griffin is a Saint Joseph’s University legend boasting a thirty-year legacy marked by her extraordinary accomplishments as an award-winning Head Coach and a distinguished former player.
Under Griffin’s leadership, the Saint Joseph’s women’s basketball team has achieved significant success over the past 23 seasons. Garnering the most wins in program history, she has led the team to 13 postseason appearances, including a memorable journey to the NCAA Tournament. On her way to 500 career wins, Griffin was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year in 2003 and has consistently made a name for Saint Joseph’s in the conference over the past two decades.
Griffin’s unique coaching approach goes beyond refining athletic skills; it’s about shaping champions for life. She believes in nurturing an “everyday champion” mindset and encouraging her players to embrace discomfort as a pathway to growth. Her commitment to developing well-rounded athletes has resulted in 23 Atlantic 10 All-Conference performers and the professional advancement of 18 players under her mentorship.
Her unwavering commitment to fostering an inclusive culture, prioritizing holistic player development, and ardently promoting Jesuit values has established Griffin as a trusted leader within the Philadelphia community and beyond.
Prior to her tenure at Saint Joseph’s, Griffin honed her coaching prowess at Loyola University Maryland, where she led the Women’s Basketball program as the Head Coach, and at Vanderbilt University, where she served a versatile role as an Assistant Basketball Coach, Co-Director of Basketball Camp, and Director of the Black & Gold Club.
Before her coaching journey, Griffin was an exceptional player and student at Saint Joseph’s University, earning a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Business Administration.
Her on-court contributions led to her induction into the Saint Joseph’s University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003 and the McDevitt Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997. And her enduring influence on and off the court has since been recognized, culminating in her receiving the coveted Alumni Achievement Award from the Philadelphia Catholic League.
