Dr. Amy Wilson

A managing director, educator, and former-student athlete, Dr. Amy Wilson inspires others, in both academia and sports, to drive the action that contributes to a more equitable society by championing an intersectional lens, building cultures of belonging, and creating an anti-complacency movement.

Currently the Managing Director of Inclusion at NCAA, Dr. Wilson is committed to and passionate about driving positive change in Title IX and DEI initiatives and efforts. She bridges connections and builds communities, successfully accomplishing the required DEI review for the entirety of the NCAA. She is proud of the gender equity and inclusive movement she leads and knows the work is never complete. Dr. Wilson occupies spaces, meeting people at the intersection of race, ethnicity, religion, and identity–striving to propel change and collaborative progress.

While in academia, Dr. Wilson encouraged revolution and ignited a call to action in others, both in the classroom and within the administration. At Illinois College, Dr. Wilson earned tenure as an associate professor of education, but she began her career at MacMurray College as an English instructor, influencing and impacting the athletic department and administration.

As a former student-athlete, sports have been a part of Dr. Wilson’s identity for most of her life, as she sees sports as a way to stretch one’s potential. She appreciates that sports are accessible to many and allow opportunities to participate in inclusive teams while working towards a common goal. Dr. Wilson values sports as a mental, physical, and spiritual experience that has shaped her into the leader she is today.

Dr. Wilson is passionate about breaking barriers and creating opportunities for those who identify with intersectionalities of marginalization and minorization, emphasizing equity and access to opportunities. She intentionally creates inclusive spaces for all voices to be heard and empowered to take action that lead to positive change. As an educator, her thought leadership, ability to have tough yet necessary conversations, and attentive diligence contribute to her ability to dig deep into complex challenges and tell stories that matter.

It is Dr. Wilson’s own lived experience as a devoted wife to RJ Stewart, a proud aunt, a student-athlete, and a leader, coupled with her Ph.D. in Sports Studies and both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in English Language & Literature/Letters that continue to light a fire to the passion and strength of her work.

Lighting a fire that ignites a revolution of equity and belonging in sports and beyond.
