Susan Syljebeck

With over 25 years of sports leadership experience, Susan Syljebeck has been celebrated for her transformative impact on communities throughout the Midwest, enhancing the lives of thousands of student-athletes through athletics.

Recently appointed Vice President of Athletics after nearly two decades at Siena Heights University, Syljebeck is on a mission to expand the university’s athletic programs, spearhead fundraising initiatives, and strengthen the executive leadership team, ultimately enhancing NAIA athletics for the Michigan-based institution.

As the University’s Athletic Director, Syljebeck developed strategies, operations, and policies centered around enhancing the broader athletic community. She played a pivotal role in diversifying the campus and advancing inclusive, people-first policies. Driven by a passion for empowering authenticity, she championed ethical practices and promoted the overall well-being of student-athletes.

Syljebeck has held key positions within the NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), including President and Vice President. Her contributions to the NAIA National Championship Tournament Committee and her service on the WBCA All-American Committee highlight her esteemed athletic leadership.

A longtime Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Siena Heights University, Syljebeck became the winningest coach in the program’s history and was named one of the Most Impactful Head Coaches in Women’s NAIA Basketball. She led her team to seven NAIA National Tournament appearances. Under her leadership, players earned multiple NAIA All-American honors, WBCA honorable mentions, and several All-Conference Player and Newcomer of the Year awards.

Her sports leadership experience began in NCAA Division I sports at Nicholls State University, where she served as Associate Head Coach and eventually Interim Head Women’s Basketball Coach. As a former student-athlete herself, Syljebeck’s accolades include being a two-time All-American and induction into multiple Halls of Fame.

Educationally, Syljebeck holds a Master of Science in Education from Southern Illinois University, a Bachelor of Science in Human Performance and Health Promotion from the University of New Orleans, and an Associate of Science from McHenry County College, underscoring her expertise in integrating sports and academics to drive organizational success.
