Corry Irvin

As an Educator, Collegiate Basketball Coach, Author, and Advocate, Corry Irvin guides individuals to find unique pathways, foster confidence, and contribute to a world where everyone thrives. With a career spanning over two decades, Irvin is committed to empowering youth, advocating for the underrepresented, and championing diverse identities. 

Currently, Irvin exemplifies her leadership as the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Mississippi State University, where she orchestrates critical aspects of the student-athlete experience. She brings learnings from diverse coaching roles across NCAA Division I, NAIA collegiate programs, and high school. 

Serving as Assistant Coach at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Head Coach at Saint Xavier University, and Assistant Coach at DePaul University, Irvin has consistently displayed a commitment to player development, effective recruiting strategies, and the cultivation of academic excellence.

As a recipient of the 2022 Silver Waves Media Most Impactful High Major Assistant Coach Award, multiple National Federation of State High School Associations Coach of the Year awards, and IBCA District Coach of the Year awards, her commitment to sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and character is well established. Additionally, Irvin was inducted into the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame in 2007. 

A natural role model, her compelling narratives on mentorship, racial disparities, and overcoming adversities reveal a passion for guiding youth to lead fulfilled lives. This dedication is also evident in her advocacy for children with disabilities, a mission that she works tirelessly to achieve.

For almost 18 years, Irvin thrived in the Special Education Department as a Diverse Learner Director at Whitney M. Young Magnet High School, where she was Head Coach of the Girl’s Basketball Team and led the team to three state championships. In pursuit of holistic student success, Irvin bridges the gap between physical and intellectual pursuits. This experience has enriched her understanding of diverse learning needs and fortified her commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for all students, particularly those with disabilities.

Informing her dedication to enhancing educational opportunities and outcomes for all students, Irvin earned two master’s degree in Special Education & Teaching and Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Phoenix. Prior, she received a bachelor’s degree from Fresno State, where she was a four-year student-athlete, leading as the women’s basketball team captain and earning an honorable mention in the Western Athletic Conference. 

Fueled by a vision of a society that acknowledges and celebrates diverse identities, Irvin continues to inspire the next generation through her work in sports and education. Her indomitable spirit and enduring influence ideally position her to sculpt future leaders, guiding them toward empowerment and success.
